Blackout Drapery - Functioning Style

Blackout drapery is a fantastic choice for a room that receives too much light, or for a situations in which sheer curtains are not footing the bill. These unique and extremely functional accessories offer a wide range of styles and designs that both contribute to the overall theme of a space, as well as offering the option of blacking out a room.

The main purpose of blackout drapery is to completely block out the sun from a space. There are a number of reasons why this might be necessary. From blotting out the light in a new born nursery allowing a baby to sleep better, to helping to darken a room for someone who might work the graveyard shift and have to sleep during the day. Many blackout curtains also come with the added benefit of insulation. As such, these curtains can also be used as a protective barrier from altering temperatures in the winter or summer depending on the time of year.

Aside from their extreme functionality, blackout drapery also offers a wide range of styling options; from rich, solid color schemes, to different cuts. Most of these types of curtains consist of flat drapery, however, there is an abundance of pleated options available as well. Some designers insist that pleated blackout curtains, while offering a better styling element, are not as efficient in insulating the area as are flat drapes.

In all, blackout curtains offer a wide range of styling and important functionality. So the next time you are in the market for one of these pieces, ensure you do not automatically assume you will have to just purchase the first bland curtain you find. There are plenty of stylish options to choose from.
